Introduction
-
Frank welcomed everyone at the end of a long and hard day at the joint CICS,
IMS and DB2 Working Groups conference.
-
Other committee members present were Ian Tyson, Neil Price, and Niel Kenyon
who is the new IBM representative - also Alan Cooper, the previous IBM
representative, and Pete Sadler who arrived as Frank was speaking. He also
mentioned Dougie Lawson who was to come the following day.
-
Andrew Jack has resigned from the committee, as he needs to take things easier
following his long illness. The committee members need to discuss appropriate
action, so Frank may be asking for volunteers for Membership Secretary at
the next meeting.
-
Feedback forms for the conference as a whole, without critique of individual
sessions, would be provided by James Harper of the CICS WG at the end of
the conference. No attendee list was circulated, and Problems/Contacts forms
had been dealt with in the initial joint sessions.
-
Correspondence
-
Flyers for joint IBM/GSE Technical Conferences:
-
e-business Application Environment 5th-9th June, Disneyland
Paris

-
General
-
The remaining meetings for this year will be
| 7th September IBM Warwick (database only, i.e. no IMS TM
presentations) |
| 7th December IBM South Bank |
IBM What's New - Niel Kenyon, IBM
-
A joint IBM Announcements session had been proposed but not adopted in the
end.
-
CE63 25th-26th September is not happening as
far as Pete is concerned as it's about conversion to DBCTL, which everyone
affected must have done by now. He would still like feedback from members
on what should replace it - maybe DB/DC vs. DBCTL differences? Neil needs
an IMS basics for DBCTL users - Alan says CA02 is about 80% relevant anyway.
-
There's an IMS Systems Programming basics course, not currently run in this
country (SMP, IVPs, implementation of DB/DC, storage pool setup/performance
etc.) - any interest? Neil said he would be interested - his team doesn't
do the SMP and are learning SMP/E basics separately but, as Ian pointed out,
there are specific quirks with the IMS SMP setup. Contact Alan or Pete for
further details or to register interest
(alan_cooper@uk.ibm.com,peter_sadler@uk.ibm.com).
-
Version 6 courses (CM60U, CM61U, CM64U) - the Web site says these are being
held at Hursley, but Pete disagrees.
-
Performance Analyzer Version 2 was the subject of a separate presentation
by Alan on the Friday.
-
SG24-5753 IMS Version 7 Release Guide is on the Web as a Redpiece (Redbook
in preparation).
-
Numerous copies of the IMS Newsletter were available for delegates to take
away.
Handouts were provided.
AOB
-
Another item from Frank - call for papers for the GSE Technical Symposium
in Montpelier on October 16th - 17th. Frank has offered
his IMS Fastpath Data Sharing presentation (already given here). Anyone who
wants to present can try it out on us first.
-
Thanks for coming - see you in Warwick.
