  • Agreed to be correct.

• 1998 Committee members
  • Can everybody continue – is Ian working for IBM a problem? Have heard no complaints, so fine as far as we are concerned. Should Frank write a note of thanks to Standard Life? Not necessary.

• Accounts
  • Dougie is moving house, so new address will be passed on to Barclays (send email to Frank). Ian needs paying-in books. Dougie to organise ¼-ly not ½-ly statements. We have £2000 in the account, and there followed a discussion on how we should use this surplus – use money to say £5 for a meeting, e.g. invite CICS people, run "cheap" meetings in Birmingham and Manchester and catch up in December as the IBM room is "free". Charge by year? Can charge voluntary fee, but don't have to tell them it's voluntary! What do CICS and others charge? Suggestion - £50/year means that two people can attend all meetings. Any extra people £25 a meeting. If not paid, then £25 a meeting.

    Action: FF to ask other groups and to prepare a letter to members.

• DBCTL sub-group
  • Small numbers, but constructive and worthwhile. Lots of sites not sure if they are members of GUIDE and don't get to see the minutes. How do we make DBCTL visible?
    1. Get the CICS Working Group to publicise, preferably by going to one of their meetings.
    2. GSE Website
    3. Agenda on DIAL. FF can do this if it is snet to him in machine readable format.
    4. CICS, IMS and DB2 working groups need to cross-publicise
    5. Need to publish dates for the year as soon as possible

• Thursdays good for meetings.

• Working Group Objectives
  • Pete – average cannot be a range! Change IMS to IMS and DL/1 (on minutes as well). In item number 9 take out the frequency.

  • Specific objectives – keep number 1 and number 3. Number 2 (who is using what), which was Phil's baby, is open to abuse and more effort than value, so drop it.

  • Phil mailshotted the dead list last year and it didn't bring anything. If you do mailshot, then inlcude a reply-paid postcard.

  • Remarks section – Meetings on a Thursday; Frank has taken over from Phil; Details of next Steering Committee; New address for Ian.

• Working Group Meetings
  • IMS Technical Conference is in Munich in June – whole week 15-19 June.
  • Ian – it is hard work getting agendas together – suggested 3xIMS and 2xDBCTL (perhaps one of these combined).
  • Dates:

    3 December South Bank

  • Action: Pete to organise room at South Bank.

  • Do DBCTL at GSE UK regional conference in November?

    Action: Frank to find out dates.

  • Agenda for 19/3:
    • Niel Kenyon – Version migration (do I need BMPs, do I have to register my DBs, do I need the IRLM amongst other questions)
    • ODBA – Pete Sadler
    • IMS housekeeping – Image Copy options vs FAVER etc – Peter Armstrong
    • DPROP – user

  • Other ideas for future meetings: IMS and Web; Connectors; E-IMS; Sysplex at Barclays, Tesco, Bank of Scotland, TNT; Automated operations; Suzy Wendler of IBM; Geoff Nichols.

  • Attendance and membership
    • Diskette to be sent to FF. In the changeover from GUIDE to GSE, not everybody has signed up yet, but FF has list.

      Action: FF to review and watch out for attendees.

• Web site
  • UK region has link to Dougie's website. Dougies has lots of space –we should put the minutes and agenda up there.

    Action: Peter and Dougie to play round with Word / HTML etc. to see what works.

    Should we try and get presentations in machine readable? Decision was that copies should be handed out on the day. Anyone not attending should ask for a copy of required – do not send out automatically with the minutes.

    We will ask at the next meeting who wants minutes on paper / minutes on the Web – we will not offer them via email as it is too much hassle keeping the distribution list up-to-date.

    Action: Pete Sadler to get the GSE home page to point at GSE UK IMS

    GSE Europe Web ahs RQ stuff on it – FF and NP have access.

    Action: FF to send NP details of id and password

• AOB
  • NP – done nothing so far on RQ – waiting for new system. There is one old RQ on ETO. FF – leave till new system in place and working.
